As the human souls become more powerful, the highest ranking members of the Remtessi, known as the Eight, struggle to find an effective solution. One such member is Manipo, whose soul was trapped in the body of a doll after a tragic accident. To regain his physical form, he tasks his assistant, Nasco, to monitor Zach, a human that he deems his perfect candidate for a vessel.
Nasco learns that Zach is starting his freshman year of college, and with enough confidence from a successful high school career, decides to tackle 19 credit hours per semester on top of working 40 hours per week as a server. While Nasco starts to feel the effects of Zach’s increasing stress on his mind and body, Manipo’s desperation leads him to reveal his true motives behind watching a human.
